  • Policies and practices

Professional conferences provide additional educational and networking opportunities:

Northern Ohio HR Conference (NOHRC) This annual, one-day event brings HR professionals together to participate in a variety of professional development programs, as well as explore the diverse HR resources available in the area.

The Ohio HR Conference This is a two and one half day conference sponsored by the State Council of SHRM for all Ohio chapters.

The National SHRM Conference This three-day conference and exposition, held in a different city each year, is normally attended by over 10,000 HR professionals. SHRM also holds annual conferences on Diversity, Legislative Affairs and a Global HR Forum.

HR University is a partnership with the Employers Resource Council that forms Northeast Ohio's first structured, ongoing training and development program for all levels of human resource professionals.

Professional certification through Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), the credentialing unit of SHRM, is actively encouraged by our chapter's sponsorship of a study group each spring/fall for members sitting for either the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification examinations.

Workforce Issues are addressed through our chapter's ongoing Diversity Initiative, School-to-Work program and collaboration with local community workforce programs.

Salary and benefit surveys are conducted by our chapter in collaboration with a survey organization to report on prevailing compensation and benefit practices in northeast Ohio.

Legislative Affairs The legislative process in Washington is influenced by SHRM's Legislative Affairs Department and supported locally by our chapter's Legislative Committee.
